Wendy James was born in Sydney in 1966. 

Her first novel, Out of the Silence (Random House,  2005), won the 2006 Ned Kelly Award for first crime novel, and was shortlisted for the Nita May Dobbie Award for women's writing. 

Her short stories and articles have been published in literary journals, magazines and newspapers.

Wendy's second novel,  The Steele Diaries, will be published by Vintage Australia in May 2008. 

A collection of her short stories will be published by UWA Press in March 2009. 

Wendy lives in Armidale NSW with her husband and children.
